I wanted to do a post about a studio we used in The Netherlands recently. Studios tend to be pretty much the same sort of set up wherever you go, but this one was really special, and warrants some attention.
So I arrived in The Netherlands ahead of 2 days of shooting, and had arranged with Michiel, the owner of Studio34x for a show around the day before shooting commenced. I had seen the studio in pictures beforehand, but the scale and size of the place had to be seen first hand to be appreciated..
Michiel has put his heart into building the studio up, and it shows. The standard and size of the sets and quality of equipment available is superb, with every last final detail being thought through to perfection.
The set above has a white infinity wall with a rotating floor and motorised ceiling. Its a great set for shooting cars, and Michiel has even had a tank in here! We used this to shoot a ladies Football team and for some group shots.
The set above features a black infinity wall and other great areas, including MUA areas. This is the area I worked in mainly, and was a great space.
The changing area, also makes for a great set as well.
And finally a picture of the man that makes it all happen, and genuinely goes the extra mile to make sure everything is good, Michiel.
I have only shown a small part of the studio setup to give an idea of the studio, There are some links below on Studio34x, so why not follow them over and have a look for yourself what a great place this is.

Olympus Stand - Professional Imaging - Holland 2014
I recently visited the Olympus stand at The Professional Imaging event in The Netherlands. Now normally, a stand in an event like this is pretty much the same as any other, except this stand was very special for a number of reasons.
Firstly, Olympus had demonstrations running over the 3 day event featuring the excellent photographers Ronald Koster and Adrian Sommeling. I was fortunate enough to see one of the live demonstrations that Ronald ran, and it was fantastic. A real masterclass in using small lights to create studio quality lighting that had people taking any space they could find to view the demonstration.
Olympus deserve massive kudos for pulling two big names onto their stand. Ronald and Adrian will also be touring with their seminars later this year, with a trip to The UK also taking place. A not to be missed event if you live in The UK as opportunities to see Ronald and Adrian do not come around very often.
Secondly, I got a chance to shoot live with one of the models on The Olympus stage, another thing Olympus went out of their way to give their brand followers the opportunity of doing. I shoot Olympus and used my own equipment, but Olympus also had spare cameras on hand to allow others to shoot with if they didn't already own an Olympus camera.
As if all that wasn't enough, I was then given free of charge, an 8GB memory card and a branded Olympus backpack for no other reason than I owned an Olympus camera!
Talk about going the extra mile. Olympus really are pulling all the stops out, a brand with a great outlook and way of looking after their customers.
5 Crown Awards Received (BPE5*)
I started entering BPE exhibitions (British Photographic Exhibitions) in February 2012, and gained my first BPE Crown Award for 25 acceptances in Member Exhibitions in June 2012. In November of the same year I had gained the second crown award for 50 acceptances into Member Exhibitions.
The third Crown Award required 100 acceptances into Member Exhibitions and was achieved 4 months later in March 2013. To achieve the fourth Crown Award required a further 100 acceptances in Member Exhibitions and that was achieved 7 months later in October 2013.
The fifth Crown Award required a total of 300 acceptances in Member Exhibitions, and was awarded in March 2014. To reach the fifth Crown Award has taken just over 2 years.
The fifth Crown Award is the top level crown award achievable, with the only further awards available beyond the five Crow Award being Associate and Fellowship of British Photographic Exhibitions which require further awards and acceptances.
There were a total of 78 pieces of work used, receiving 90 awards, across 40 exhibitions to achieve the five Crown Award. (BPE5*).
From Feb 1994 Up to August 2013 there have only been 81 BPE5* awards made.
